The blending of language and culture of any ethnic group has pronounced sacral-mythological features. The result of such mutual projection is the identification of the character of language with the character of the people, or national character, and this in turn often leads to the assertion of the superiority of one's native language over all others and, as a consequence of the linguistic principle superimposed on the patriotic, of its ethnocultural society over the others. The assertion of superiority can take place either veiled or explicitly. Such phenomena are nowadays observed in the discipline which calls itself "linguoculturology" and which has spread mainly in Russia and China. The present book contains articles and fragments of monographs by scholars from various countries, shedding light on the historical causes and various aspects of the process of mythologisation of language perceptions.
